From Carol Walker's blog on August 2014 Wild Horse Removals

An Adobe Town Band Stallion Leads the Way
An Adobe Town Band Stallion Leads His Family

The fight to stop the BLM from its plan to eradicate wild horses from private
n 2004, I fell in love with a gentle, battle-scarred grey stallion and his small,
family. He ran right up to me and I waited, not knowing that this encounter
would change my life forever. His filly came up next to her father and it looked
as though she grinned at me. I had to keep coming back to see them,
learn more about their lives, and photograph them as they as they are best portrayed,
wild and free, at home in the dry, dramatic and isolated landscape of the Red Desert.
I wrote my first book, Wild Hoofbeats: America’s Vanishing Wild Horses to let people
know how magnificent these horses are, and that they deserve to live free.

Wild Horse Rangers Gathering on Capitol Hill

are made and how you can make a difference. Understanding the issues,
knowing your representatives and communicating with them effectively
is crucial to keeping wild horses protected in their natural habitat.
Meet with animal welfare lobbyists at the American Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Representatives from
the ASPCA will mentor Wild Horse Rangers on how our political system
works and how they fight to protect animals in our country. Then, Wild Horse Rangers will learn how to communicate their concerns about the issues
America's wild and domestic horses face.
Next, on to Congress and the Senate to meet with your Representatives
and express yourself on the issues!

News From Canada ... say a prayer.

Raised for slaughter is not okay and it will ensure a steady stream of horses going to Mexico but video evidence from Canada shows that slaughter conditions are bad there as well.

US heavy-weights join Atamanenko on Parliament Hill to take aim at horse meat industry
Horse slaughter Bill C-571 up next week for 2nd reading debate and vote

OTTAWA – New Democrat MP, Alex Atamanenko (BC Southern Interior) is holding a press conference to discuss his private members bill to restrict the slaughter of horses to only those raised primarily for human consumption and which carry a lifetime medication history.  Bill C-571 is up for its second hour of debate on Monday, May 12 following which a vote is likely to be held on Wednesday May 14.
With over half the horses slaughtered in Canada being sourced from the US where slaughter has been shut down since 2006, he will be joined by US heavyweights Victoria McCullough (Owner of Chesapeake Petroleum, International Equestrian and Philanthropist) and Florida State Senator Joseph Abruzzo. Using arguments based on science and legal liability the US heavyweights were able to convince US Vice President Joe Biden to add language defunding federal inspections at US slaughter facilities for horses in the 2014 Omnibus Bill signed by President Obama this past January.  Horses in the US cannot be slaughtered without federal inspections.
Also taking part will be Sinikka Crosland, Executive Director of the Canadian Horse Defence Coalition (CHDC), a key ally and promoter of Atamanenko’s Bill C-571 and Dr. Ray Kellosalmi, CHDC medical and toxicology expert.
When: Thursday, May 08, 2014
Where: Charles Lynch Room - Centre Block - Parliament Hill
